In December 2021, a simple job transfer from Nagpur to Goa turned into the perfect excuse to chase a long-awaited dream ride across South India. While most would have booked a flight or hit the highway in a car, the traveler in me had other plans. With my household packed and dispatched through movers, I kick-started my motorcycle and set my compass South India—destination: Kanyakumari and then traverse to Goa via Kerela. What was meant to be a routine relocation quickly became an epic solo road trip filled with adventure, scenic coastal rides, and the thrill of exploring India on two wheels. This is the story of how a career move turned into the ultimate motorcycle travel experience.
Day 1: Nagpur to Hyderabad Halt – Biryani, Chai & a Quick Detour (500 KM).
The ride began on a somewhat chilly January morning in 2022, with no fixed plan—just a goal to head South India and enter Goa via Southernmost tip of India. A few kilometers in, the craving for authentic Hyderabadi biryani and Irani chai took over, and just like that, Hyderabad became the first stop which is at a distance of 500Kms from Nagpur. The 9-hour ride was smooth, with open highways and signboards pointing toward Kanyakumari. I checked into a budget-friendly hostel, stepped out and grabbed a delicious plate of biryani, sipped some Irani chai, and took a quick walk around the iconic Charminar. A perfect detour before the long ride ahead and rested well for the upcoming day…

Day 2: Hyderabad to Salem – 765 KM of Silence, Freedom & Open Roads.
The ride kicked off early from Hyderabad with a loose plan to halt at Bangalore — a solid 583 km away. But that’s the thing about solo rides — plans shift with the wind. The roads were smooth, traffic sparse, and the weather perfect. Every turn of the throttle made me want to stretch further. By mid-day, I knew: Salem was the new target — 765 km from where I started. The long run on the road may sound exhausting, but there’s something meditative about cruising solo through changing landscapes. The hum of the engine, the wind cutting through the helmet, and the absolute silence around became my companions. Thoughts came and went, and the mind felt surprisingly clear — like the ride was cleansing something deeper.
The entry into Salem wasn’t easy — heavy truck traffic and a stretch through a wildlife corridor after dark kept me on edge. But the thrill? Unmatched. It wasn’t the most eventful day in terms of stops or scenery, but the sheer stretch of it, the peace of riding solo, and the personal milestones made it unforgettable.

Day 3: Salem to Kanyakumari to Kovalam – Chasing the Southernmost Tip of India (540+ KM).
This was the day I had been most excited about — finally heading to Kanyakumari, the southernmost tip of India.
After reaching Salem late the previous night, I took a relaxed start. Right next to my hotel was a small local food joint, serving the softest idlis and strongest filter coffee of the trip — a perfect fuel-up. With no rigid plans, I decided to ride to Kanyakumari first, and then continue on to Kovalam, Kerala. The 7-hour ride to Kanyakumari was smooth and stunning. Wide highways, endless windmills, coconut trees, and distant hills made the journey feel like a postcard. The closer I got, the more real the excitement felt. Reaching Kanyakumari was a moment — the symbolic end (or start) of the country, and a personal milestone on this solo journey.
I spent a couple of hours at the tip, soaking in the view, capturing memories, and reflecting on how far I’d come. Then, back on the saddle for a few more hours of riding — toward Kovalam, where two beachside rest days awaited.

Day 3/4: Coastal Pause in Kovalam – Rest, Swim, Repeat.
After covering miles from Nagpur to Kanyakumari, Kovalam was the pause my body (and bike) needed. I found a stay right by the beach — close enough to hear the waves — and gave myself permission to just be.For 2 days, I swapped highways for ocean breeze. Mornings meant long beach walks, afternoons were for swims and seafood, and evenings ended with stunning sunsets near the lighthouse. Kovalam’s peaceful stretch of golden sand and laid-back vibe made it the perfect pitstop.
No ride plans. No rush. Just rest, reflection, and recharging before hitting the road again.

Day 5: Detour to Munroe Island – Backwaters, Forest Trails & a Big Milestone(225kms ended to 90KMs).
After 2 slow, soulful days in Kovalam, it was time to hit the road again. My next planned stop was Fort Kochi, known for its Portuguese architecture and old-world coastal charm — just 225 km away via a scenic coastal route.
But the road had other plans.
A friend suggested a detour to Munroe Island, just 90 km from Kovalam. What followed was a peaceful 2-hour ride through forest trails and shimmering backwaters — and it turned out to be one of the most memorable parts of the trip. As I rode into the quiet beauty of Munroe Island, something incredible happened — my motorcycle’s odometer touched 1,00,000 km. A huge milestone, and there couldn’t have been a more perfect setting to witness it.
Tucked at the confluence of Ashtamudi Lake and the Kallada River, Munroe Island felt like another world. The island is a maze of backwaters, with houses connected by narrow canals where boats are more common than cars. I stayed in a peaceful homestay, explored mangrove & waterways on a traditional boat, and ended the day with a delicious home-cooked seafood meal. Authentic, quiet, and deeply grounding — Munroe Island was the perfect unplanned chapter of the journey before rolling into Kochi the next day.

Day 6: Munroe to Fort Kochi – A Farewell to Stillness, A Step into History(150kms).
Leaving Munroe Island wasn’t easy. The stillness, the slow backwater life — it stays with you. It was one of those places you instantly feel like returning to, and I knew I would someday. Post breakfast, I hit the road again, headed toward my pre-planned stop: Fort Kochi. Just 150 km away, it was a short 4-hour ride. I took it slow, soaking in the last bits of Kerala’s green trails. But as I moved north, the weather turned noticeably hotter — a sign that Goa was getting closer.
I checked into a relaxed hostel in Fort Kochi and spent the rest of the day wandering through narrow lanes lined with Portuguese-style houses, quirky cafes, and colonial charm. No rush — just easy exploration, good food, and coastal air.The day ended quietly, setting the tone for the final stretch of the journey ahead.

Day 7: Kochi to Kannur – A Serene Stop Chosen by Instinct (290Kms).
With no fixed route and Gokarna on my mind, I found myself in a dilemma — ride straight there or break the journey. I chose the latter, letting instinct guide me to Kannur, a town I knew little about but hoped would offer calm beaches and quiet vibes. The 280 km ride from Kochi to Kannur started early, giving me a relaxed pace and enough time to take in the coastal route. It was unplanned in every way — I booked a homestay at the last moment, and it turned out to be a blessing.
Tucked away on the outskirts of Kannur, right next to a secluded beach, the place was peaceful and untouched. There were no crowds, no noise — just the sound of waves and the comfort of solitude. A plate of home-cooked fish curry sealed the day perfectly.

Day 8–9: Gokarna – Where the Road Slowed & the Heart Stayed(380Kms).
The last leg of my journey had begun. With just two days before returning to work in Goa, I decided to spend them in Gokarna — a place I’d heard of, but didn’t yet realize would leave such a mark on me. The ride from Kannur to Gokarna—around 380 km—was smoother than the past few days. Highways opened up, speeds picked up, and at moments, I found myself riding parallel to the sea, the vast blue waters keeping me company.
After 9 hours on the saddle, I reached Zostel Gokarna, perched beautifully on a cliff with sweeping views of the Arabian Sea. It felt like the perfect way to wind down a long ride — surrounded by nature, waves, and a slower pace of life.
Gokarna surprised me. It had a laid-back energy mixed with spiritual calm — a blend of beach town and temple vibe. I explored Paradise Beach, my favorite for its quiet charm, and did the beach trek that links Belkan, Om, Half Moon, and Kudle Beaches. Sunset walks, conversations with fellow travelers, and local food made time stretch in the best way.
It was the perfect farewell to the road — a pause before Goa, and the return to the routine.

Day 10: Back to new work location – Rolling into Goa (150KMs).
The final ride of the journey — Gokarna to Goa — was just a few hours, but carried the weight of a thousand memories. As the roads curved into familiar Goan landscapes, I knew the adventure was drawing to a close.
From Nagpur to Kanyakumari, across Kerala’s backwaters, and through Gokarna’s cliffs, it had been approx 3,000 km of solo reflection, detours, milestones, and raw freedom on two wheels.
This wasn’t just a relocation.
It was a reminder — that sometimes, all you need is a packed bag, an open road, and the will to chase what moves you.
The trip ends, but the ride never does…………
